Opening
A preacher reflects on the church’s mission and picture in his mind the scene of Jesus returning to heaven after the resurrection
The scene includes Jesus coming back to heaven with the thief on the cross with him and begin to celebrate his amazing ministry (i.e Turning water into wine, he fed the multitude, calmed a storm,walked on water, died for the sins of the world)
An angel asked.... “How will the world know about Jesus’ good work”? Jesus left his mission his the hands of the church to share the good work of Jesus Christ
Jesus has left his life work with US (church)
The church is not a monument for maintenance but a movement for ministry
Sermon Key Points
The church is an outward facing organization. Sunday is meant to filled up with the word of God to go out Monday-Saturday to reach someone
Matthew is the most limited of the four gospels. It bridges the gap between the old testament and new testament.
It's the most Jewish gospel of the four. Matthew’s famous word is “fulfill” because he is trying to tell people that Jesus is the “fulfillment” of any old testament prophecy
He commissioned his disciples to go to the most ethnic territories.
Matthew is saying the world should know who “Jesus is” and it should a limitless gospel
Why share Jesus? They get to see God uses imperfect people in his perfect work
Matthew 28:16- After the resurrection Jesus designated his meet up location. We they saw him they worshiped him and doubted him at the same time
Jesus welcomes people who do not have it all figured out and those that have questions
We should bring our doubts to worship. Take them to church
Jesus is the only person that has an answer for death, hell, and the grave. Jesus is the only person with power of the grave. Christian are the only people with a future
Share Jesus with people because you are not perfect. God wants to be in a relationship with people who are not perfect
Why share Jesus now? God wants people to see you don’t have to be perfect to share a perfect God. Our faith is outward not inward
Matthew 28:18- It is a demonstration that the Christian faith is the only faith that God has for mankind. God come and talk to them
Jesus has POWER/AUTHORITY (Mark 5- Jesus heals the woman with the issue with blood, Jesus casts out demons, Jesus walks on water, Luke 4:14- Jesus returns to Galilee in Power)
Jesus has the power to give others POWER
Jesus tells them to “GO” and make disciples of all the nations. We should be going to them and not asking people to come to church.
God will sit you next to people who you are supposed to share the gospel with. You are not a failure if they do not believe you. It is up to them to believe.
Everyone needs a discipliner (A more mature Christian), someone who is walking with you (Barnabas), and someone you are disciplining
Matthew 28:19- “Jesus said go make disciples and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit”
Baptism symbolizes your commitment to Jesus’ mission and sharing his good work.
