Can’t Nobody Do You Like Jesus

Opening

  • Pastor Dates officiated many weddings and vow renewals.

  • It can kind of feel embarrassing when you are in a position to provide for the merriment and enjoyment of invited guests and you run out (ie: planning an event and there’s not enough food).

  • Life has a way making good things run out. “When the wine ran out” (John 2:3)

    • Money has a way of running out.

    • Time has a way of running out.

    • Tenderness has a way of running out.

  • There are circumstances in life that make things run out.

Sermon Key Points

  • When the Bible says “When the wine ran out” (John 2:3), it is the literal, actual wine.

    • In biblical times, wine was actually scarce -- so it was treated as more of a necessity (after water) instead of luxury.

    • Wine carries a symbolism in the Bible for joy and gladness.

    • Wine references a cheerfulness that it brings to life in the Bible.

  • Jesus was invited to a wedding in Galilee.

    • Jesus affirms the institution of marriage because He showed up to the wedding.

  • Weddings were a huge celebration, multi-day party in biblical times.

  • But they ran out of wine. So Mary went to Jesus to ask him to make some. He gently asked Mary what the wine situation had to do with Him, but then Mary went to Jesus’ servants and told them to do whatever Jesus tells them to do. Jesus went on to tell the servants to get water jars so He could turn water into wine. (This was the first major miracle Jesus performed in Galilee)

  • This text is tailored to teach you and I that Jesus rescues the impoverished when He is invited into their desperate situations:

    • When life runs out on you (poverty), Jesus knows how to rescue you when you invite Him into your desperate situation.

  • This is why Pastor Dates wants us to join him in Sharing Jesus Now. Because we have friends who seem to have it altogether, but they are really impoverished; they cry themselves to sleep, etc.

    • They don’t need an invitation to another party, they need an invitation to Jesus Christ.

  • What ought to encourage us to Share Jesus Now?

    • We ought to do this because Jesus is willing to show up in places where others may think is beneath them.

    • We ought to do this because Jesus will deliver you and others from shame.

      • There are situations in life that produce a lot shame.

        • Shame has a way of haunting you and reminding you that you don’t deserve the things that God has given to you.

        • Shame has a way of encroaching your prayer life, that right when you start talking to God -- all the things that you did that dishonor God flood through your mind.

        • Shame has a way of having you pretend to be somebody you’re not.

      • When you come to the point of life where shame can take you over, Jesus can rescue you!

        • Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

        • Stop letting that cloud of sadness and sorrow linger over your life!

  • Mishandling time is a deadly malpractice.

    • The Bible is full of time sensitive moments. But Pastor Dates thinks we are in one NOW.

    • The time is NOW in America

    • If you think someone you know is far from God, NOW is the time to say something!

  • Whatever Jesus tells you to do, DO IT!

    • It may feel strange, but just do it!

  • Through this miracle of Jesus turning water into wine, the deeper meaning that Jesus is saying to us is that He is able to transform the sons & daughters of mankind into the sons & daughters of God.

    • The real miracle is that our sins have been forgiven through Jesus Christ! Amen!

    • The real miracle is that (for believers) when we die, we get to go to heaven because Jesus has made a way! Amen!
